  • Overview

    This position will be the day-to-day Project Manager for the SimLEARN Contract which provides Standardized Patient (SP) services for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Simulation Learning, Education and Research Network (SimLEARN) training program.  Support services include assisting in the development of SP scenarios, providing qualified SPs and scheduling SPs.  This position will be responsible for coordinating all training, labor, management, material, equipment and travel as required to support the requirements of the contract.  This national SP program provides (4) services:  Standardized Patients (SPs), Human Ultrasound Models (HUMs), Debrief Interactors (DIs), and Gynecologic Teaching Associates (GTAs).


    This position will also manage the additional support services tasks provided on SimLEARN contract.  These tasks include Curriculum Development, Training Coordination, Training Services and Operations and Maintenance of Medical Simulation Equipment.  This is a national standardized patient program therefore, travel will be necessary.


    • Supervises the planning, coordination, development, and administration of the SimLEARN policies and procedures
    • Manages all classified personnel activities including recruiting and supervision of employees
    • Manages all aspects of the program, including staff, equipment, and facilities
    • Works with the Customer to develop clinical scenarios and appropriate evaluation instruments
    • Attend necessary meetings and conferences for the purpose of improving the services provided in relation to the contract
    • Manages fiscal activities, including budget preparation, fiscal reports, requisitions, account management and accounting system design
    • Coordinate quarterly, telephonic In-Process Reviews (IPR) with the cusomer
    • Establish and host regularly scheduled Integrated Product Team (IPT) Meetings with the customer and remote employees
    • Prepares annual and periodic reports
    • Supervises the equipment inventory including space utilization and office equipment
    • Supervises the management and implementation of a standardized patient program for the instruction and evaluation of medical students
    • Supervises the collection of valuable, reliable, and useful data on the teaching and learning process supporting clinical teaching, assessment, and curricular design
    • Training and supervision of the standardized patients.
    • Other duties as assigned



    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health, Nursing, Education, Theater, Humanities (or a related field), or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is necessary.
    • At least three years of experience with administration and management in a clinical skills center and working with SP methodology.
    • A Master’s degree is desirable.


    Experience working with medical faculty to develop instructional programs and evaluation instruments; excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of medical interviewing, physical examination skills, and disease processes desirable; experience in training patient simulators for educational uses or equivalent desirable; ability to work directly with faculty during case development, evaluation, and revision process

    Ability to read, and interpret professional journals, and legal documents as necessary. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors, customers, and the general public. Ability to communicate technical concepts and thoughts to management. Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical equations as applicable. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Familiarity with medical terminology and/or laws, ability to work with spreadsheet and database software and knowledge of health care, accounting systems, hospitals human resources and grants management.



    Desirable related work experience in physician assistant training, nurse practitioner, acting/directing experience, or teaching; experience in managing projects with excellent writing and communication skills.


    Other: Ability to work flexible hours to administer evening and weekend workshops, courses, exams and other meetings; basic computer literacy, familiarity with audio/video equipment would be helpful


    Provides direct and indirect supervision and management of employees in the center. Additionally, is directly responsible for recruiting, scheduling and assigning work, and measuring performance.

    Physical Demands

    Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for handling, to work with such hand tools as wrenches, screwdrivers, wire cutters, pliers, and soldering irons. Seeing up close.     Work Environment

    The incumbent works at a desk a 50 % of the week. The remaining time is spent training, setting up for, or

    running a project. Work does include some minor lifting of equipment and supplies. Will include weekend and

    after-hours work. This is a national standardized patient program therefore, travel will be necessary.

    Work Schedule

    40 hours per week.  May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
