  • Overview

    As a Standardized Patient, you will represent different medical, behavioral and emotional scenarios in support of training clinical professionals and provide feedback to simulation participants.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide verbal feedback to the simulation scenario participants (learners, teachers, observers) after all simulated patient encounters
    • Wear moulage consisting of makeup, artificial body fluids, and/or silicone rubber to simulate injuries or medical conditions such as skin conditions, wounds, and amputated limbs.
    • Portray a patient repeatedly (in exactly the same manner) during the course of each learner interaction.
    • Simulate the same set of physiological / behavioral symptoms or problems consistently for each scenario iteration.
    • Document the observations of learner performance using case checklist.
    • Provide input on the evaluation of the learner’s verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
    • Attend scheduled communication review workshops as identified in each TO for training event preparation.
    • Attend training sessions for scenarios as identified in each order.
    • Wear an audio headset during the simulation scenario to receive real-time guidance during the scenario and adjust their actions during the scenario as directed.
    • Be comfortable with repeated history taking, conversations with learners and having repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on self.
    • Travel may be required for the completion of assigned duties.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of one year of documented experience and training from an established SP program that follows the guidelines established by the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE).

     

    SPECIAL SKILLS

    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Operational computer skills with general working knowledge of word processing, and Microsoft applications (including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Able to define problems and obtain solutions.

    Physical Demands

    Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lying down or to be or remain in a position or state of inactivity.     Work Environment

    Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

    Work Schedule

    Part-time, on-call. Hours may vary with each assignment.
