  • Overview

    Provide technical support for research, analysis, and investigations in supporting design, preparation, execution, and analysis of studies and experimentation; selecting, installing, and maintaining instrumentation; performing laboratory procedures, field studies, testing, and research activities; and perform laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other scientific and administrative tasks in fields such as electrical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering, biomechanics, or other related field.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with inventory, calibration, setup, repair, and instrumentation, equipment, and data acquisition tracking, operation, and maintenance.
    • Provide support with all levels of documentation, particularly engineering and technical aspects, development of testing procedures and equipment, instrumentation, calibration, collection of data, assessment and mitigation Independently perform laboratory procedures, calibration, repairs, test setup, build-up, maintenance, and other technical and administrative tasks for research in Injury Biomechanics based on broad guidance, taskers, objectives, and/or SOPs provided by the Government through the Injury Research Facilitator, Group leadership, and PIs as well as individual initiative to support research efforts. All aspects of RDT&E are included, but particularly Human Subject Research, Research Not Involving Human Subjects (RNIHS), and cadaveric research.
    • Actively support planning for and execution of studies, inspections, and data collections; particularly cadaveric studies and offsite studies and data collections by ensuring availability and functionality of resources.
    • Maintain instrumentation, equipment, and data acquisition inventories, status (availability, functionality, tracking, use, operation, maintenance, location, etc.), and projected schedule of status.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree in engineering related field such as electrical, biomedical, mechanical, biomechanics, physics, etc.
    • Must have a minimum 4 years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical.
    • Experience in laboratory procedures, testing and research activities.
    • Demonstrated experience within at least 4 of the following research tool groupings: impact and/or shock devices, biomedical imaging and imaging analysis tools (including CT, MRI, and x-rays), high speed imaging and analysis tools, biomedical instrumentation (load cells, accelerometers, etc.), data acquisition equipment, biomechanical research and testing with demonstrated injury biomechanics research; PMHS (post mortem human specimen) research and data, and/or with ATDs (Anthropomorphic Test Devices).

    SPECIAL SKILLS:

    • Exposure to Post Mortem Human Subjects (PMHS) research and Biosafety Laboratory Level 2 policies and procedures.
    • Must be able to read, understand and execute techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives succesfully.
    • Strong written communication skills and a solid understanding of Government contracting and the professional services industry.
    • Advance computer skills with advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite software.
    • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
    • Proven ability to exercise mature judgment – specifically in recognizing and respecting the confidential nature of corporate and personnel matters.
    • Work independently with a certain degree of creativity and latitude expected and with minimal direction to address analytic, scientific, and operational questions, solve analytic and technical problems, and execution analytic, scientific, and administrative solutions.

    None.

    Physical Demands

    Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lying down or to be or remain in a position or state of inactivity. Lift and carry 50 lbs. individually and as a part of a team lift and carry operation; use hand tools to assemble and disassemble equipment, instrumentation, and test devices; climb and descend equipment, test devices, military vehicles, steps, or ladders.     Work Environment

    Work is performed primarily in an office and /or laboratory setting. Laboratory environment includes human testing, so exposure may include but are not limited to:  Blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, fumes, vapors, communicable diseases, etc. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

    Work Schedule

    40 hours per week. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
