  • Overview

    Performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties that are necessary to run the organization efficiently.  Perform a wide range of duties to support management and staff of the Contracting Office and its Branches.  The position functions as a part of the ERDC Public Affairs Office (PAO).

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct research and interviews.
    • Write approximately eight articles per month.
    • Develop and maintain ERDC web and social media sites.
    • Design materials including marketing brochures, exhibits, etc., as required.
    • Take digital photos for approximately 20 events per year.
    • Escort visitors and follow with an "after action report."
    • Plan approximately seven special events per year.
    • Prepare speeches/remarks for ERDC ceremonies, etc.
    • Prepare and submit a monthly report on all of the activities.
    • Responsible for writing and sending out all articles on ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory emerging technology, research and projects.
    • Write articles for internal publication, as well as ERDC internet, and regularly submit articles to external publications.
    • Serve as sole PR rep for ERDC knowledge management, as well as all content regarding ERDC's new headquarters building.
    • Serve as sole social media manager and poster, ensuring quality content for ERDC's Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages.
    • Serve as co-editor for articles and publications coming out of ERDC PAO.
    • Compile agendas for VIP visitors when needed, and help escort visitors at the facility.
    • Write speeches for ERDC leadership and participates in planning committees for ERDC events, including serving as chair for the annual Corps Day committee.
    • Responsible for writing scripts for major ERDC events, including the annual awards ceremony and, most recently, the retirement ceremony for ERDC's commander.
    • Sole contributor and editor for monthly publication "ERDC Notes," sent out from the ERDC Executive Office to all leaders within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) including Commanding General. Posts articles, new content regularly to ERDC's internet site and serve as sole updater of homepage.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Requires an Associate's degree in a related discipline. In lieu of degree, relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
    • Minimum of two (2) years in a public relations or social media role.
    • Advance computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), publishing, and web software.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform diverse duties under operating and deadline constraints.
    • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.

    Physical Demands

    Frequent sitting, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing and seeing up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus; occasional walking or standing, occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.     Work Environment

    The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and in some off-site locations during project transitioning with a wide variety of people in different functions, personalities and abilities.

    Work Schedule

    40 hours per week.  May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
